Russia overwhelm in World Cup opener

Hosts Russia would have surprised even themselves as they came out 5-0 winners in the opening match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup against Saudi Arabia.                                                                                                                                                                 Both sides started the game having the inglorious reputration of being the lowest ranked sides at the Word Cup and after 90 minutes, the Russians had proved themselves to be the side that needed it more.                                                                                                                                                                                                          Yuri Gazinskiy rose highest to head home a cross from Aleksandr Golovin and just before half time, Denis Cheryshev who had earlier replaced injured Dzagoev scored to make it 2-0.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Russia went on rampage scoring three times in the final twenty minutes through Artem Dzyuba in the 71st, Aleksandr Golovin in the 88th and then Dennis Cheryshev again in the 90th minute to wrap up a memorable day for the hosts.
