Rivers Angels coach, Edwin Okon is confident the reigning Africa Women’s Player of the Year, Asisat Oshoala would win the award in successive years.

Oshoala was crowned the Africa Women’s Player of the Year and Youth Player of the Year on Thursday 8th January at the Glo Caf awards in Lagos for her brilliant performance at the Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada, the Africa Women Championship in Namibia and her club, Rivers Angels last year.

Speaking to Naijafootball247.com, Okon who is Super Falcons coach and doubels as gaffer for Rivers Angels disclosed that Oshoala would win the subsequent editions of the Africa Women’s Player of the Year.

“I think she would win it back to back because Rivers Angels are known to win their Cups for keeps just like we won the FA Cup five times in a row, I expect her to do same,”Okon said.

“Oshoala is a disciplined player and she has the qualities and age is on her side, he added.”

Veteran forward Perpetua Nkwocha and Cynthia Uwak are the only players that have won the award in consecutive years. Nkwocha won it in 2004, 2005, 2010 and 2011 while Uwak won it in 2006, 2007.

With lots of speculations over Oshoala”s club future, the AWC winning coach revealed that the double award winner would not make any hasty move out of the shores of the country.

“She is a bonafide player of Rivers Angels and I repeat that she just went for the Fifa Ballon D”OR and would be back to join the team soon. Oshoala is not in a hurry to travel.”

Rivers Angels resumed training on Monday ahead of the new season which kicks off on February 28, though they didn’t have Oshoala who was away in Zurich for the Fifa Ballon D”OR.
