Obuh: My team have shown quality

Nigeria’s U20 football team coach, John Obuh says his side have shown quality after qualifying for the second round of the FIFA World Youth Championship.

Obuh says his side did not just qualify, they topped their group winning all three games and it must count for something.

“By the end of the group phase, we’ve proven that we’ve got a good team. We’ve been able to finish in first place in the group and we’ve shown our quality today and since the start of the tournament,” Obuh said.

He added that the physical side of the game was very necessary but they also had to be better tactically.

“The physical side of the game was important today, but we also had to be the better team tactically.

“My players’ attitude was exemplary; they never stopped trying to attack. It’s a long process to get to this stage.”

After making it through to the Round Of 16, Obuh says the plan of the team is to be successful in the long term and not look firther than their next game which happens to be against England.

“The team have been working together for a long time and of course our goal is to keep progressing and be successful in the long term.

“But for the time being I’m not looking any further than our next match, and I know that there are some great teams standing between us and the title, such as Brazil, Argentina and Colombia.”
